DENNYS ALL CALIFORNIA CAN BE FOUND IN SAN FRANCISCO

The worst Dennys in the United States, according to San Franciscan Gabriel M. asked pleadingly, “No garbage, please,” Destiny C. “Worst Denny’s, 0 stars,” said Eli K. of Mountain View. from Paramus, New Jersey, felt the place reminded them of a chuck-e-cheese.

Kenyon B., from the Bay Area city of San Francisco. reviewed it favorably and wrote a positive article about it. He was impressed with the quality of the food, the speed of the service, and the friendliness of the staff. Since the guy at my table was shot and killed, I had to take a star off.

On a recent Tuesday, I ventured one block to the Dennys at 816 Mission Street in downtown San Francisco, hoping against hope that I wouldn’t meet the same tragic end as Yelp reviewer Kenyon B.

DENNYS YAMAMOTO/SFGATE

I called the company to confirm that the Dennys in San Francisco was the priciest in California, but no one there could give me an answer.

I’m confident that the San Francisco Denny’s is the most expensive in California, if not the entire country, after comparing menu prices at every Denny’s near me to those in San Francisco.

The Fit Slam consists of egg whites scrambled with spinach and tomato, turkey bacon, and an English muffin. Prices are $12.99 in San Diego and Los Angeles, and $17.99 in San Francisco. Get a discount with this coupon for Dennys coupon.

DENNYS DINER ALL-AMERICAN

The Lakewood, California location of Dannys Donuts first opened in 1955. A year later, Harold Butler rebranded the stores as Danny’s Coffee Shops and made them open 24/7. After the pandemic in 2020, many Denny’s restaurants ceased 24-hour service, and some still haven’t returned to normal.

It’s COFFEE DAN’S

To avoid being confused with Coffee Dan’s, Butler changed the “a” to an “e.” Over a thousand restaurants existed in the country by 1981. There are over 1,600 Denny’s restaurants around the world.

WINNER, CAKE IN THE SKY

The Grand Slam, Dennys most popular breakfast item, consists of your choice of pancakes, French toast, or waffles, plus eggs, bacon, ham, sausage, and hash browns.

This dish is a staple at “patriotic” breakfasts all over the country. “The waitress was amazing and attentive,” said Captain J. of San Francisco. An employee of “Make America Great Again,” he says.

DENNYS HASHBROWNS, CRUNCHY AS CAKE

Below the city’s tall buildings and shopping malls, a massive yellow sign with red lettering proclaims, “Denny’s” in downtown San Francisco. The “open for anything” message painted on the restaurant’s glass front at 816 Mission Street.

DENNYS SFGATE EMPLOYEES

A waiter seated SFGATE staff photographer Lance and me in a booth to give us a true diner experience, despite the fact that the 24-hour breakfast spot was empty when we arrived. The metal and red pleather stools were very appealing to me, but I ultimately settled for the noisy faux leather booth.

IMAGES IN BLACK AND WHITE

Black-and-white photos of the Golden Gate Bridge and other San Francisco landmarks and photos from Dennys’s own history displayed. At the Palm Court, where I had a $30 burger, I saw a group of women having a good time while eating their lunch, a far cry from the people in magnificent headgear I had seen earlier.

The Lumberjack Slam was the most expensive thing I’ve ever ordered at Denny’s. Two buttermilk pancakes, two pieces of grilled ham, two pieces of bacon, two links of sausage, two eggs, hash browns, and toast.

STATE AND LOCAL TAXES AND TOURIST FEES

Prices start at $19.99 before added fees and gratuities. Denny’s Lumberjack Slam in Hollywood costs $15.99, while in El Centro, it’s only $14.39.

Since I was raised on a diet of organic foods and an approach to health that avoided fast food and chain restaurants, I had no idea what to expect from these establishments.

I was worried that the Lumberjack Slam would make me sick. When I was 9 years old, my uncle bought McDonald’s burgers for me and my cousin. I felt sick after consuming it. In the years following, I cut back significantly on my consumption of fast food.

RAPID DEBUT

The sudden appearance of the Slam took me by surprise. The piled-high bacon, sausage links, and ham slab all appeared crunchy and succulent. Slightly bouncy, buttery, golden scrambled eggs. My appetite whetted by the hash browns.

DENNYS BREAD SHOP

The hash browns at Denny’s appeared to be on par with those at local favorites like Art’s Cafe and Toast Eatery in San Francisco.
