Consequences of Using Poor Quality EPDM Gaskets in Boilers

The biggest of machines can become unfunctional with the smallest of errors. Most manufacturers focus on developing a strong structure and efficient power consumption amid which gaskets get overlooked. This can lead to many irregularities that might compromise the entire project. By installing EPDM gaskets, you can focus on other aspects of your device rest assured. They are mostly used in case you replace your existing boiler or install a new one. In both cases, they have a negligible share in total costing and only quality products should be employed. Given below are some of the consequences that could result as an effect of using improper quality gaskets.    

Outcomes of using poor quality gaskets

Inadequate sealing

One of the most common consequences of using poor-quality EPDM gaskets is leakage. They are ineffective in holding their position against pressure and are unlikely to hold the components together. This could detach the boiler from its holding position and cause structural and internal damage.

Short lifespan

Poor quality means that the gaskets have to be regularly inspected and replaced frequently. This adds to the cost of maintenance, leading to the declining functionality of the machine.

In addition to this, the rubber follows constant expansion and contraction that forces it to lose its elasticity and become oversized.

Units of boilers placed outdoors are continuously exposed to sunlight, heat, cold, rain, and other climatic elements that can affect their functioning. Installing poor-quality EPDM gaskets lack adequate resistance and interrupts its working continuously. This also leads to its breakdown long before the normal age of functionality. 

Induced electrical conductivity

For better sales, manufacturers add some traces of metals in the counterfeit gaskets which makes them appear rigid. However, they become threatening as the entire boiler runs on electricity or has an additional electrical source. They can give you a shock of varying intensities in normal usage, posing a safety hazard. 

Environmental hazard

Poor-quality EPDM gaskets are more likely to suffer damage and burn. This makes them capable of releasing unwanted gases and toxins into the environment that can prove deadly to all living organisms. This can give rise to many respiratory and cardiovascular conditions with long-lasting effects. 

Prone to ozone and UV radiation

Many industries and instruments have been noted to release ozone gas during their use. Ozone is a highly volatile compound that reacts with metals and corrodes them. Having a gasket of low resistance allows the gas to cause irreversible damage that can cost a fortune to repair. Also, UV radiation can overheat the mechanics of the boiler and burn it from the inside. This leads to low productivity and higher maintenance charges.
